PicSona – a persona for your pictures

April 7, 2013 by dm_admin_ms

Introducing PicSona – a cloud based service to let content producers invoke content (photos) from repositories (Flickr) and provide attribution/linkback easily to the content generator. While still a very raw service, we would love it if you would take it for a spin and let us know your thoughts.

In a nutshell, PicSona lets you search for pictures published through the flickr photo sharing service, and get an embed code for these pictures. More content libraries will be added soon if the concept seems useful to folks.

The end result? If you are constantly looking for a fast, east, legal way to get access to stock images, PicSona may be just what you have been looking for. Just go to PicSona.com, search, click, copy and paste the embed code.

Scroll down for an example created from some of my own photoshop creations. Just mouse-over a photo for attribution/link to the author. We look forward to extending this service soon should it prove useful.

Fun with QR codes

March 16, 2013 by dm_admin_ms

An interesting way to design a QR code - building an infographic right into the code.

An interesting way to design a QR code – building an infographic right into the code.

QR codes can and should be a fun way to engage with consumers while helping them bridge the online/offline gap.  That is why we created QRstyler with our team at GotWebDev, Inc.

In the process of delivering a platform that helps you create useful physical hyperlinks, we became somewhat expert in making them both visually appealing and evocative of what they represented (linked to).

This particular code design was one of my all-time favorite examples.

My DNA

February 2, 2013 by dm_admin_ms

This was a fun little weekend project.  I would love to find the time to start doing sophisticated 3D modeling again, if only to achieve the ability to render reflections easily.

vertical_dnaI began with a very simple concept and a wireframe to anchor the idea in my mind.

This was functional, but not nearly as slick and polished as I was looking for.  This graphic was to adorn my home page, to the side of my welcome text, so I really wanted it to pop and look somewhat polished.

helix2My second effort was much more sophisticated, and now that I have a handle on the steps to get this far in photoshop, I am confident that I can do even better.

The trick with this sort of work is always (at least for me) in the commitment to effective layer management.  Smart objects and layer articulation can save massive amounts of time, and if you are careful to archive backup layers as it evolves, they can save heartache too.
